The film score wasn't better than it had been in the first movie and the supporting cast were less interesting (save for Strasberg's character). Putting two 90-minute movies together the way they did meant double the exposition & double the rising action, but the relatively tepid nature of the prequel story didn't result in double climactic finales to compensate. They did this sequel emphasizing things like the dark & brooding atmosphere, the intensity of Pacino's character and the allure of learning more about the borderline-mythical Brando character, but they did so at the expense of pace and intriguing plot. I think what happened here is they identified parts of the first movie that made it a hit and those happened to not be the parts I appreciated about it most.
